Overview

"Hey, Piano. Which way should we go here?" "First, you should go right; there's a treasure chest there."

"Hey, Piano. Where can we find strong companions?" "Before that event, the fairy village might be a good place."

"Hey, Piano. Draconian Spear?" "About 1/64 chance, I guess."

What's with this guy?

I decided to try out Romancing SaGa, famous for being a masterpiece!

Impressions up to The Phantom of the Four Noble Devils

  • I chose Ellen as the main character. Her initial weapon was an axe, but I went with martial arts just out of personal preference.
  • It seems there are various items with low drop rates, and it's fun reminiscing about the drop marathons of old times. Compared to Mabinogi, a 1/64 chance is a breeze.
  • So far, I've been marathon hunting for the "Dragon Spear Smaug" and the "Water Mirror Shield."

  • The "Inspiration" in Romancing SaGa is well-known in the gaming community. I finally got to experience it.

  • Isn't it a little surprising how physically strong the fairies are?
  • The lack of a total recovery magic spell is refreshing.
  • Initially, I was worried because there were too many "Misses," but recently the attacks have been hitting consistently, so I'm relieved.
  • If you train both magic and physical skills, you might miss out on the "Crown." Isn't this trap-like?
  • Depending on the choices you make and the order in which you complete events, sub-events may disappear rapidly. Although this is common in many games, it's particularly intense in Romancing SaGa 3.
  • I was surprised that the initial adventuring party can change based on the order in which you speak to characters right from the beginning of the game. The fate of a major quarrel with your little sister Sara is determined by something as simple as the order in which you talk to characters. Their family relationships are way too sensitive.
  • The mechanism where Sara leaves in the middle of the game, isn't that way too crazy? Even the seed thief in DQ7 leaves at the beginning of the game. But this is just what I heard from Piano, not something I've experienced myself.
  • The rule that you can only carry up to 10,000 in currency, what? If it exceeds that, it automatically goes to the bank, what? You can't see your bank balance, what? (Seriously, what is this?)

That's about it. From here, Ellen is about to embark on an adventure to find her missing sister Sara.
