Overview

Continuing from the previous entry.

What I Tried Up to This Month

  • Deru-Jun Pass Tan Eiken 1-kyu 4th Edition + Anki.app

  • I finished adding all the words to Anki.app, so now it’s just steady daily review.

  • Among all my study routines, memorizing vocabulary is the simplest and most relaxing, so it’s my healing time.
  • Learning Modern English Through NHK News (https://www.nhk.jp/p/rs/77RQWQX1L6/list/)

  • Good material for dictation → shadowing.

  • When the rerun week comes, I lose momentum a bit — that’s the only drawback.
  • The Japan Times – Fastest Pass! Complete Mastery of Eiken Grade 1 Writing Tasks (https://bookclub.japantimes.co.jp/book/b309521.html)

  • Over two months, I finished the first half, all 212 practice questions. It didn’t really help me train the “generate ideas on social issues” part.

  • But doing 212 translation tasks did boost my writing strength for the essay section!
  • Past exams

  • I finally felt ready to touch Grade 1 questions. My impressions so far…

  • Vocabulary fill-in: my healing time. I love memorizing words the most.
  • Reading comprehension: I read slow! So I’m doing intensive reading to eliminate “I can’t read it even with time.”
  • Writing: I also write slow! So… same strategy as when I aimed for Pre-1… just write a ton.
  • (2025-03-14) The Road to Eiken Pre-1 – February 2025: What I Did Right Before the Exam
  • Listening: surprisingly hitting a plateau. Well, the only option is to keep listening!

Thoughts

  • With this amount of work, at least the “quantity” requirement should be cleared.
  • To talk about “quality,” you need a certain amount of quantity first. Maybe it’s time to think about quality — shifting from “studying as entertainment” to “studying for the exam.”
