Overview
Continuing from the previous post:
Roommate: "Since it's 'Pre-1', it's hard to brag about it to others. Please go for Grade 1."
Midori-san: "Alright, let's do this..."
But Grade 1 is on a whole different level!
What I Tried This Month
- EIKEN Grade 1 Vocabulary: Deru-Jun Pass Tan 4th Edition
- I've previously written a critical article about the "Deru-Jun Pass Tan" series. However, regrettably, I've experienced firsthand that it's an efficient method for EIKEN preparation.
- (2024-10-28) Thoughts on EIKEN Pre-1 Deru-Jun Pass Tan 5th Edition
- Also, knowing that the latest 5th edition has been revised unfavorably, I obtained the 4th edition as a used book.
- Anki.app
- An app recommended by a friend. It supports the "spaced repetition" learning method.
- I use it in combination with the "Deru-Jun Pass Tan".
- NHK Radio Business English (https://www.nhk.jp/p/rs/368315KKP8/list/)
- For the EIKEN Pre-1 listening section, I managed by shadowing my favorite YouTubers, but it was quite tough. I wanted to try something more orthodox, so I chose NHK Radio.
- I go through it with dictation followed by shadowing.
- NHK "Learning Contemporary English through News" (https://www.nhk.jp/p/rs/77RQWQX1L6/list/)
- This is also NHK Radio. The difficulty level is slightly higher in "Business English", which is good, but "Learning through News" uses actual news as material, making it more interesting.
- Since it's simply enjoyable to listen to, I do light shadowing with it.
Thoughts
- Compared to a year ago when I started studying English, I've become able to choose more reliable study methods.
- My scores in reading and listening for EIKEN Pre-1 were good, so my approach to studying those areas seems fairly accurate.
- However... writing is another story. My score in EIKEN Pre-1 was below the average for passers, and I haven't started working on it this time either.
- Also, EIKEN Grade 1 vocabulary is insane. Almost every word is unfamiliar.
- NHK Radio is fun. Listening to various people's voices daily is stimulating. Also, I enjoy writing with a mechanical pencil on paper, so dictation is enjoyable.
