Overview

The other day, I read my dear roommate's favorite book "Kiele" and wrote a book review. When I told my roomie, "I've read itー", they lent me the next part and said, "Wanna read more? (ドサッ)", so I read it. It seems there are more than 5 volumes, so from now on, let's just write casual book reviews.

Summary

Summary up until now.

  • Boarded the train to the Sea of Sand.
  • Harvey evaluates Kiele as, "It felt like she took my hand and pulled me out of a long, long time of drifting alone."

Port chapter.

  • Harvey earns travel money by playing card games with sailors.

"Sandy Mole's Seventh Son" chapter.

  • Boarding the "Sandy Mole's Seventh Son."
  • Onboard, Kiele meets Julius. He's a typical rich boy and the son of someone from the church's upper echelons. Moreover, he's possessed by his mother's spirit, which protects Kiele but leaves Harvey to fend for himself.
  • The ship's crew murders drifters and kidnaps women and children. (Eh...?)
  • Being drifters themselves, Harvey gets beaten up, and Kiele almost gets kidnapped. They escape and get picked up by the "Sand Walker."

"Sand Walker" chapter.

  • The "Sand Walker" is an old acquaintance of Harvey's.
  • Reunions with old friends and spirits onboard lead to emotional events.
  • But actually, the "Sand Walker" has become friends with the church, and Harvey gets stabbed with a spear. (Eh...?!)
  • They are saved by a ghost ship called the "Sandy Mole's Birthplace," where Kiele's mother's spirit uses her spiritual power to help them.

South Hyro Port chapter.

  • Once again drifting, the two are rescued thanks to Julius' infatuation with Kiele and his search team.

Thoughts

  • Huh? Why are these people trying to get on a ship again...? I feel like the reason isn't mentioned.
  • Julius and his family's mindset is too evil.
  • The grandma on the "Sand Walker" seems nice, but she should say that they've become the church's minions. Emotional stories about the Sandy Mole are essential, but this is clearly more important.
  • It's certain that Kiele's presence has been Harvey's salvation, but her usual behavior is truly annoying. Harvey clicks his tongue, saying things like "You love causing trouble and sticking your nose into tricky situations," "If you're going to cry about it, don't do things your way in the first place." He's absolutely right.
  • ...But maybe a life filled with irritation, anger, salvation, and cherishment, like now, is healthier than a life avoiding others like Harvey's before he met Kiele? Maybe that's what Yukako Kabe wants to convey?
  • The following scene reminds me of my roomie.
    • Captain: You were jealous after all, weren't you? You've reflected a bit and plan to change your attitude, right?
    • Harvey: Stop nagging. Why should I reflect?
    • Harvey's firm reply leaves Kiele, who had been eagerly listening, deflated, and she lets out a small sigh...
  • The following scene also reminds me of my roomie...
